In its latest round of achievements, Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has earned three Communicator Awards for news and public affairs programming from the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts.
The Rowan Report Election Night Special won an Award of Excellence in the General Production category. The show highlighted important issues impacting voters and provided live election updates. Allison Bruce, Riley Adams and Elena Laughton co-anchored the live program.
The Rowan Report received an Award of Distinction in the General Production competition. The weekly news show features anchor Allison Bruce and the Rowan Radio News Department examining the week’s top stories in a crisp 30-minute program.
This is the second accolade for The Rowan Report in 2024. Last month, The Rowan Report won second place for Best Newscast in the Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts competition.
Beyond the Brown & Gold won an Award of Distinction for Individual Episode by an Educational Institution in the podcasting category. The award-winning entry, titled “ProfSweethearts,” focused on couples that met while attending Glassboro State College/Rowan University.
Hosted by Rowan graduates Jessica Kanady '08, M'15 and Rob Lightfoot '00, M'01, Beyond the Brown & Gold highlights the lives and memories of Glassboro State College and Rowan University alumni.
The podcast, which debuted in October 2022, is a collaboration between the Division of University Advancement and Rowan Radio. All episodes of Beyond the Brown & Gold are available on podcasting platforms including Apple Podcasts and Spotify.
The 30th annual Communicator Awards, presented by the Academy of Interactive & Visual Arts May 13, recognized the best in media communication.
Celebrating its 60th anniversary, Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has won more than 360 national and regional awards since 1993 including Best College Radio Station of the Year in 2022 and 2023.
