Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM received two awards in the Society of Professional Journalists Region 1 Mark of Excellence Awards April 10.
Together: An Audio Documentary on Latino Immigrants in South Jersey won first place in the Radio In-Depth Reporting category. Adam Clark and Ralph Quidone co-produced the award-winning piece about the personal struggles of Latino immigrants throughout South Jersey.
Clark and Quidone created the documentary as a part of a Radio Production class instructed by WGLS-FM Assistant Station Manager Leo Kirschner. Previously, Broadcast Education Association and the Garden State Journalists Association honored Together.
The Rowan Report earned a finalist nod for Best All-Around Radio Newscast. Anchored and produced by WGLS-FM News Director Katie Francis, The Rowan Report recaps the week’s top news stories.
During the past year, Broadcast Education Association, College Broadcasters Incorporated, and the Hermes Creative Awards honored The Rowan Report for excellence in reporting.
The Society of Professional Journalists and the Mark of Excellence Awards salute the best in student media. The Region 1 competition recognizes the best in student media throughout Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Rowan Radio has won 332 regional and national awards since 1993.
