Another big win: Rowan Radio picks up three Hermes Creative Awards

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has received three Hermes Creative Awards in an annual international competition sponsored by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.

Guns: Calibrate Your Thinking earned a Platinum award in the Radio Program category. The 30-minute documentary used insightful analysis from experts about the controversial topic of gun culture.

Produced by Sam Arcaini, Alyssa Compa, and Bob Duncan, the program recently won a Communicator Award of Distinction for audio production.

8-Bit to HD: The Evolution of Video Games & Their Effects On Society won a Gold award in radio programming. The documentary examined the history of video games and potential tie-ins to violent crimes. The honor marks the second achievement for the documentary produced by Laurie Senior.

Last month, the Garden State Journalists Association gave 8-Bit a first place nod for best radio feature.

50 Years and Counting: The Oral History of WGLS-FM garnered Honorable Mention in the Radio Program category.

The four-part series detailed the history of WGLS-FM dating back to 1964. The documentary featured interviews with WGLS-FM alumni and administrators about the station's growth.

This is the second award for the documentary narrated by Philadelphia radio veteran Angela Mason and produced by WGLS-FM Assistant Station Manager Leo Kirschner.

The Communicator Awards honored the program in April for achievement in audio production.

The Hermes Creative Awards salutes the best in print media, public relations, and electronic media. It is an international competition for creative professionals involved in the concept, writing and design of traditional materials and programs, and emerging technologies. The program is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals.

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has won 265 regional and national awards since 1993.
