Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM wins four awards for radio programming and online video production

GLASSBORO – Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has won four new awards for radio programming and online video production in international competitions.

The African American Profile, hosted by Omarey Williams, received a pair of honors last week. The show earned an Award of Distinction from The Communicator Awards in the organization’s program division and a Hermes Creative Platinum Award in the Radio Programs category. The winning entry for both awards featured an interview by Williams of Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, the keynote speaker at Rowan University’s Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast in January. Williams, a local civic leader, has hosted the African American Profile since 2008.

Elsewhere, The Story of WGLS-FM, an online video about the station’s 50-year history, nabbed an Award of Distinction from The Communicator Awards in the educational online video category. The video, which made its debut at the WGLS-FM 50th Anniversary Celebration last October, was produced by WGLS-FM Assistant Station Manager Leo Kirschner.

Living with Autism: A Different Way of Life, a 30-minute documentary, won an Award of Distinction for production in The Communicator Awards. Created by Jennifer O’Donnell, Blake Doughty, and Michael Stoever, the program focused on autism’s impact on society through interviews with experts, parents, and siblings. The documentary was also recently honored by the Garden State Journalists Association with a first place nod for Best Radio Feature.

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has won 254 regional and national awards since 1993.
