GLASSBORO - Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM has earned a pair of awards in the Festival of Media Arts competition presented by Broadcast Education Association.

"The Rowan Report", an hour-long news program centered on local, national, and world news, grabbed second place recognition in the Best Newscast category for BEA’s Student News competition.

The winning entry from July 2014 focused on numerous key stories including President Barack Obama’s efforts to replenish the Highway Trust Fund. Hosted by WGLS-FM News Director Melissa Friend and Assistant News Director Christian Oberly, "The Rowan Report" airs each Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Elsewhere, Jackson Baird won second place in the Best Radio/TV Sports Event, Play-by-Play category for his call of Rowan University Baseball’s dramatic come-from-behind victory over The College of New Jersey in the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament last April.

Baird, a senior and WGLS-FM’s Public Affairs Director, will work with the Wilmington Blue Rocks – a Class A Advanced minor league affiliate of Major League Baseball’s Kansas City Royals – as a broadcaster and producer this upcoming season.

The Broadcast Education Association’s Festival of Media Arts competition annually salutes the best in student and faculty media.

Winners in the Festival of Media Arts competition will be honored in Las Vegas, Nevada in mid-April at the Broadcast Education Association’s annual convention.
