Rowan Radio wins first ever Hermes Awards

For the first time in station history, WGLS-FM earned a pair of Hermes Creative Awards during the organizations 2012 international competition.

Studio 89.7, hosted by radio veteran and Rowan University adjunct instructor Paul Perrello, was named a Platinum Winner in the Audio/Radio Program category. The program featured Philadelphia broadcasting legend Jerry Blavat as the special guest.

This is the third major award in 2012 for the show, which was also honored by the Garden State Journalists Association and the Communicator Awards.

Wilmington Blue Rocks Baseball received Gold Winner recognition for its coverage in the Audio/Radio Sports category.

The winning entry featured Rowan alum and Blue Rocks play-by-play broadcaster John Sadak on the call; and in-studio producer Rob Cunningham, who hosts pre and post-game coverage.

The Blue Rocks are in the second year of its partnership with Rowan Radio.

Hermes Creative Awards is an international competition judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, an organization created in 1995.

The competition includes entries from creative professionals involved in marketing, public relations, and media. There were over 4,700 entries from throughout the United States and several other countries in the 2012.

WGLS-FM has won 207 national and regional awards since 1993.
