GLASSBORO — Earlier this spring, “Rowan University — Building a Boulevard,” a radio documentary on the Rowan Boulevard development project, won a regional Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists. Now, the student-produced Rowan Radio segment has picked up top honors in SPJ’s New Jersey Chapter Awards competition.
“Building a Boulevard” won first place in the Radio Enterprise Reporting category of the statewide SPJ competition. A collaborative effort between Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM and the radio production course taught by assistant station manager Derek Jones, the documentary was produced by three Rowan juniors. They include: Chris Capitanio of Glassboro, a Radio/Television/Film major with a concentration in Honors; Maya Carr of Camden, an RTF major with a minor in dance; and James Bracciante of Mullica Hill, an RTF major with concentrations in Honors and new media communication.
