Courier Post, March 22, 2011

Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM will be the new broadcast home for Wilmington Blue Rocks baseball.

In an agreement between Rowan University and the Blue Rocks, a Kansas City Royals Minor League affiliate, all 140 Carolina League games and potential Blue Rocks playoff games will be broadcast on 89.7 WGLS-FM.

Rowan alumnus John Sadak, lead announcer and director of broadcasting/media relations for the Blue Rocks, will handle play-by-play duties for all games with his broadcast partner, Matt Janus. Sadak, who holds two degrees from Rowan, was inducted into the WGLS-FM Hall of Fame in 2005.

Rowan senior Adam Dobrowolski of Ewing, sports director at WGLS-FM, joins the crew as the host of all pre-game and post-game shows, in-game scoreboard announcements and in-studio producer. Dobrowolski, a student in the Thomas N. Bantivoglio Honors Concentration, will graduate in May with his bachelors degree in journalism.

Rowan Radios 750-watt signal blankets the Delaware Valley, making for a potential listenership approaching several million people for Blue Rocks Advanced-A professional baseball.

This partnership will prove to be a huge benefit for our students and listeners, says WGLS-FM General Manager Frank Hogan. Combining forces of one of the nations top college radio stations with one of Minor League Baseballs most successful teams is a home run in every sense. Its a fabulous opportunity for our station members.

WGLS-FM has captured nearly 200 national and regional awards since 1993.

We are elated to partner with a strong, FM-quality signal for all Blue Rocks broadcasts, home and away, says Blue Rocks General Manager Chris Kemple. Our fans will now have the opportunity to hear every game in its entirety throughout New Castle County, South Jersey, Delaware County in Pennsylvania and beyond from the first pitch to the final out.

To combine forces with an award-winning station that serves as an educational tool for its students and a positive force in the Delaware Valley community is a true win-win situation for our team, Rowan students, and our fans.

The first broadcast on WGLS-FM will be April 8 at 7:05 p.m., when the Blue Rocks open their 2011 season in South Carolina against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (Texas Rangers). The home opener is April 15 at Frawley Stadium as the team hosts the Potomac Nationals (Washington Nationals).
