GLASSBORO Rowan University's radio station, 89.7 WGLS-FM, has received several honors from the international Communicator Awards competition and the annual Philadelphia Press Association competition.
Two public affairs programs produced by Rowan Radio's staff and the station's website, wgls.rowan.edu, received Awards of Distinction at the Communicator Awards.
The station also received two Broadcast Talk Radio Host awards. Journalism professor Candace Kelley won for her weekly show, "League of the Extraordinary" specifically, a two-part look at Minister Alex Pineda, who travels around the world to minister to the sick and misunderstood. Rowan adjunct faculty member Paul Perrello won for "Studio 89.7" and his interview with former "Saved by the Bell" actor Mark-Paul Gosselar.
In the Philadelphia Press Association's competition, the weekly show "African American Profile" won first place for Best Radio Magazine Feature. Hosted by alumnus Omarey Williams, the winning show was an interview with actor Dave Goodman.
