South Jersey News Online, November 20, 2008The staff at Rowan Radio 89.7 WGLS-FM brought home five awards at the Philadelphia College AIR (Achievement in Radio) Awards presented by the March of Dimes.
Senior Radio/Television/Film major Julia Giacoboni, of Cedarville, won two individual awards, claiming the prizes as “Best College On-Air Radio Personality” and “Best College Public Affairs Anchor.”
“Fading Farms & Saving Grace: Preserving the Garden State,” a 30-minute documentary Giacoboni co-produced with Brian Kanady, of Upper Pittsgrove, was named “Best College Radio Documentary.” The award was the ninth major award for the documentary.
Jeff O'Connor, a senior RTF major from Green Brook, won the award for “Best College Sports Reporting” for his coverage of the New Jersey Athletic Conference baseball playoffs.
Two Rowan students claimed the “Best College Promo” award for promo entitled “Chain Reaction,” which promoted a series of music programs featuring songs with the same title or artist.
Doug Cohen, a senior RTF major from Cinnaminson, teamed up with Omarey Williams, of Pittsgrove, for the honor. Williams who earned his bachelor's degree in RTF from Rowan in 2007, is now pursuing his graduate degree in public relations from the University.
