Rowan Radio wins programming awards

GLASSBORO — Rowan Radio, 89.7 WGLS-FM, recently won three awards, including a national award, for its programming.

Rowan Radio won a Marconi Radio Award in the category “Best Sportscasting” for its program “The Profs’ Year in Review.”

The 8th annual Marconi College Radio Awards is a national competition conducted by Loyola University that recognizes excellence in college broadcasting. The program, produced by WGLS-FM sports director Derek Jones, highlights accomplishments of Rowan University sports teams.

Rowan Radio also won first place for “Best College Production” in the annual New Jersey Associated Press Broadcasters competition for its documentary “The Internet — Birth of the Dot-Com Culture.”

The same documentary also won third place for “Radio In-depth Reporting” in the Society of Professional Journalists’ 2000 Mark of Excellence regional competition.
