Bartiromo will be missed

The Whit, October 31, 1991

Dear Editor,

I am writing to voice my discontent with changes at WGLS.

According to an article in last week’s Whit, the program director’s position at WGLS, which was held by Dave Bartiromo, has been eliminated.

Frank Hogan, General Manager of WGLS, said this was to keep “one Saddam Hussein” from being in charge. What Hogan failed to mention is that Bartiromo was elected to this position by the other members of the radio station. Hogan’s comparison of Saddam Hussein to a fairly elected position is not only uncalled for, but is also very unprofessional.

Hogan also appointed Kim Stevenson to a created position of operations director. If this new position was created to fill the void that the loss of the program director caused, then why was Bartiromo, who beat Stevenson for the Program Director position last semester, not appointed to Operations Director?

It sounds like Hogan is the only “Saddam Hussein” here. He came into the radio station, changed its format, fired the elected officials, and then installed his own hand-picked people into power who knows what’s next?

Only one thing is sure: WGLS lost a hard-working and dedicated person when David Bartiromo left. He will be missed.

Sincerely,
Zeny Magos

Bartiromo will be missed
